The Lantern Ilima lei is bursting with rich gold, orange, and red hues. The flower is shaped like mini lanterns and its delicate petals measure approximately 1 ½ inches long. The Lantern Ilima is used extensively in Hawaii for lei-making and is often a substitution for “true” Ilima because of its size (Ilima takes 500 to 600 petals for a single strand, while the Lantern Ilima needs only 100 blossoms.) The single Lantern Ilima is strung through the center of the flower and predominantly displays the outside of the petals. The Double Lantern Ilima is sewn sideways through the base (stems) of the flower and layered to create a round lei showing the flower’s orange filaments.
Care: Refrigerate in sealed plastic bag or container.
NOTE: Lantern Ilima is an extremely sensitive flower that is reactive to environmental and body heat. It may deteriorate quickly upon wear. *We do not recommend this flower if you are not using it within 24-48 hours of receipt. *Purchase this lei at your own risk, especially in the summer months.
There is also an option to add white orchids (see drop down menu below) which may help boost longevity to the lantern Ilima by looking fuller.
